Hello Readers! This blog is response to the thinking activity which is assigned by Megha ma'am. In this blog I am going to discuss about short story Crime and Punishment.

About Author:-

R. K. Narayan:- 



R. K. Narayan, whose full name was Rashipuram Krishna Swami Iyer Narayanswami, was a renowned Indian author who played a prominent role in Indian literature. Alongside authors such as Raja Rao and Mulk Raj Anand, he was considered a leading figure in the field. Narayan gained recognition for his stories set in the fictional town of Malgudi, located in South India. Among his many accomplishments, Narayan received prestigious accolades such as the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1960 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2000. His novel "The Guide" was adapted into a film, further showcasing his literary brilliance. Narayan's writing continues to captivate reader with its simplicity, vivid portrayed of characters, and insightful experience of human nature.

Crime and Punishment:-




Crime and punishment is written by R. K. Narayan. This story really proves the old saying, "spare the rod and spoil the child". It highlights the truth that over caring and over parenting spoil the child. This story brings out a comical situation between a teacher and student.

The boy was preparing a test in arithmetic. The test was scheduled and the teacher was preparing the student for test. The student provokes the angry teacher by repeating the wrong answer. At last, the teacher bit the little boy. When the boy started crying, the teacher become very upset.

The boy's parents were very rich and they were against giving punishment. The boy was their only child and they did not like anybody beating him. The boy put forward a condition before the teacher. If he allowed him to play, he would not disclose the truth. At last, the teacher obeyed and the boy wanted him to play with him.

The teacher become very tired and the engine of the toy was also damaged. Then the boy wanted him to repair it. When the teacher was not ready to repair it, he damaged a story from him. The teacher become very tired after repeating many stories. Then the boy again threatened the teacher and ran to his parents. 

The teacher then stumbled to the portico step. At that time, the parents reached there. The teacher become very afraid and wanted to confess everything. By that time, the boy's father enquired about the test and the boy became very afraid and hid behind his parents. He looked at the teacher desperately.

The teacher felt sympathy for the boy and replied that he has won the test. The boy become very happy and thankful to the teacher. The teacher also told them about the game they were playing to make him happy. 

The central theme of this story is relationship between teacher and student. So, here are some examples of movie related to the major theme of the short story.

Ultimately, the movie reminds us to question the status quo and embrace true learning beyond the confines of conventional expectations.
