Pride and prejudice

Q.4 Give Illustration of the society of that time.

"There is no charm equal to tenderness of Heart."

          - Jane Austen

Georgian Society:-

All of Jane Austen's Novel are set against the background of daily life in English Georgian society at the turn of the 19th century. Jane Austen's Novels : Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield park and Northanger Abbey, had the most significant effect on upper - middle class , education, marriage of the time she was living.

Marriage concept:-

Marriage is at heart of every Jane Austen Novel or at the very least, at the end of them , as every one of Austen's heroine find themselves at 'The End' with a husband, a fortune and lifelong happiness. The first line of the Novel Pride and Prejudice is all about marriage.

'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must , be in want of a wife.'

In the novel Elizabeth's father Mr. Bannet always busy getting her daughters married to perfect and wealthy suiter. He just wants wealthy man for her daughters.

Marriage, to Austen, is Important because it is the means by which her heroines achieve happiness and fulfillment, a balanced and well considered marriage provides her heroines with a strong social support network, good socioeconomic standing and loving people.

fashion - Regency dress style:-

The Empire silhouette was the key style in woman's clothing during the regency era. The dresses were usually light, long and fit loosely, they were usually in white and often sheer from the ankle to just below.

Social Status :-

In the 19th century England was divided into several social classes, the Aristocrats were the highest power in the 19th century,. Which included the Royal family. Upper and middle classes judged and gossiped about people.

Jane Austen was known for writing about social class in her Novels. In Jane Austen's pride and Prejudice, she wrote about the class systems with a romantic twist and it was the society that Austen was depicting.

In Jane Austen's novel pride and Prejudice only reflect two classes of the society,

Upper class:-  Darcy Family

Middle class:- Bennet family

Q.5 If you were director or screenplay writer, what sort of difference would you make in the making of movie?

If I were a director or screenplay writer I would definitely make some kind of change like , the filmmakers focus on only romance and marriage that i want to change and add some morals message of women's condition and life.

Q.6 who would be your choice of actors to play the role of characters ?

I would choose,

Elizabeth as Priyanka Chopra

Mr. Darcy as Ranveer Singh

Mr. Bingley as Varun Dhavan

Jane as Shraddha Kapoor

Mr. Collins as Johnny Lever

Mr. Wickham as Ayushman Khurana

Q.7 Write a note on a scene you liked the most.

I like the most scene in novel is first proposal of Mr. Darcy. But Elizabeth Reject Darcy's first proposal because while he admits to loving her, he also says many insulting things about her family and Social position. In the present, that kind of proposal happens with many women. A Man first tries to propose her and then if a woman is not ready to accept his proposal then a man insults her family and Social status in society. And that's why women reject that kind of proposal.

Q. 8 Compare the narrative strategy of Novel and movie.

Pride and Prejudice - Novel :-

Pride and Prejudice is Romantic Novel of Manners written by Jane Austen in 1813. The Novel follows the character development of Elizabeth Bennet. It is set in rural England at the turn of the 19th century. It follows the Bennet family, which includes five very different sisters. The main themes in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen are family, wealth, Social class and pride and Prejudice.  These themes are shown in the Novel through the relationships and interactions between various characters.

Pride and Prejudice - Movie :-

The Movie - Pride and Prejudice is a 2005 Romantic drama film directed by Joe Wright, it is based on Jane Austen's 1813 Novel, of the same Name. Keira Knightley play the role of Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfayden play the role of Mr. Darcy. The film feature five sisters from an english family of landed gentry as they deal with issues of marriage, morality and misconceptions. Screenwriter Deborah Moggach intially attempted to make her script as faithful to the novel as possible, writing from Elizabeth's perspective while preserving much of the original dialogue.

Pride and prejudice - Camparision :-

In the Novel and Movie i observed some differences. The movie has other differences than just the dialogue. In the movie, Elizabeth keeps secrets from her family and grows apart from her older sister Jane. This is different from the book, while Elizabeth does become frustrated with events related to her family, she never keeps secrets from them. Another difference between novel and movie is that at the end of the Novel we find that the novel ends with the marriage of Darcy and Elizabeth but in the movie ends with intimate scene between Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth.
