Sunday Reading :-Post - Truth

 

Hello Readers! This blog is in response to the task as a part of Sunday reading, assigned by Dr. Dilip Barad sir, Department of English, MKBU. In this blog I am going to present  my thinking and understanding of the word Post Truth.

Post Truth:-

"However much you Deny the Truth, The Truth will continue to exist." 

                          - George Orwell 

Truth is very important. Believing what is not true is apt to spoil people's plans and may even cost them their lives. People don't think much about truth they believe in only widely spread News and things.

Post truth is Oxford Dictionaries word of the year for 2016. The dictionary publisher defined Post Truth as 

" Relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influencial in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief."

 Post truth is relating to a situation in which people are more likely to accept an argument based on their emotions and beliefs, rather than one based on facts. Oxford Dictionaries further notes that post truth was often used as an distinctive kind of politics - Post - truth politics. And in the Social media we can see that fake news spread widely. So, there are two important aspects of post truth, which are spreading many things.

• Post truth in Politics and
• Post truth in Social media

Post truth in politic:-

Post truth politics also called post factual politics and post reality politics is a political culture where true or false, honesty or lying have become a focal concern of public life and are viewed by popular commentators and academic researchers alike as having an important causal role in how politics operates at a particular point in history. Many times politician lie about government plans . They give many promises to public for his own benefits of voting. Let's see some examples of post the in politics.

Nowadays, the term " fake news " has become ubiquitous to the extent that it conveniently used in an accusatory manner, to denounce or belittle any uncomfortable or inconvenient facts. 

President Trump has labeled real, verified news from mainstream outlets as " fake news "  a step further from what any other politicians have done in the past, despite the fact that many US presidents have had a complicated and adversarial relationship with the press. In 1962, Nixon partly blamed the press for his loss in the elections for governor of California. Once president, he created the white House Communication office to ensure his interactions with the media were as predictable and orchestrated as possible.

Post truth in Social media:-

The use of social media which separated from traditional way of communication is growing increasingly day by day. Social media is defined in literature as a kind of " New media" .  Social media is a tool to give us all the information. But aal the information is not true some information is not truth. We need to think critically and factual. 

The fake news site registered in the US cloned the website of reputable Belgian newspaper Le Soir to make the false allegations. The story URL has generated almost 10,000 likes, shares and comments on Facebook. A story shared by Marion Marechal - Le pen, niece of national front presidential candidate Marine le pen, claimed that the campaign of Emmanuel Macron, a centrist candidates, was financially supported by Saudi Arabia. 

The story is fake . When Marian Marechal - le pen tweeted 30% of Macron's campaign funded by Saudi Arabia? We demand transparency, she appeared to have a reputable sources. Le soir is a French - language Belgian newspaper founded in 1887.

People don't think critically they believe in only thing that as it is. Sometime social media not provide us true information. But people believe in all information which is shared in social media. Fake news not only affects individuals on a small scale, but on a larger scale as well. We don't tell the truth in social networks . This is not to say that we lie, or mislead people, it's just that we are selective about what we say or reveal about ourselves. 

So I conclude my understanding about post truth say that think critically and check the reality of information. It is very necessary to check the fact and don't believe in fake news.
